چکیده

where γ is the observed environmental lapse rate, and Γ s and Γ d are the moistand dry-adiabatic lapse rates, respectively. Of particular interest here is state 5, dry absolutely unstable. Typically, this state exists in a shallow surface-based layer (usually < 100 mb deep) and results from an imbalance between the rate at which air adjacent to the ground is heated by conduction and the rate at which dry convective eddies (restricted to dry-adiabatic overturning) can transport the heated air upward (Hodge 1956; Slonaker et al. 1996). It is most often observed on clear dry days when surface heating by incoming shortwave radiation is intense. Under these conditions, dry convective eddies Moist Absolute Instability: The Sixth Static Stability State

Idealised simulations of sting-jet cyclones

An idealised modelling study of sting-jet cyclones is presented. Sting jets are descending mesoscale jets that occur in some extratropical cyclones and produce localised regions of strong low-level winds in the frontal fracture region. Moist baroclinic lifecycle (LC1) simulations are performed with modifications to produce cyclones resembling observed sting-jet cyclones. A sting jet exists in t...

The wavelength dependence of the gross moist stability and the scale selection in the instability of column integrated moist static energy

Gross moist stability (GMS), a measure of how efficiently divergent flow exports column-integrated moist static energy (MSE), is a widely used quantity in current simplified models of the tropical mean circulation and intraseasonal variabilities such as the Madden–Julian oscillation (MJO), where it is often assumed to be constant. In this paper, it is shown, with cloud-system-resolving model ex...

Application of TCSC and SVC to Enhance the Power System Static Voltage Stability

In this paper, the performance of two types of FACTS devices in order to enhance the power system static voltage stability has been investigated. These devices include Static Var Compensator (SVC) and Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC). The modeling of the Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) and aforesaid devices has been made up in steady state mode with disregarding of the generator ...

The seasonal cycle of midlatitude static stability over land and ocean in global reanalyses

[1] Using a new reanalysis data set, the seasonal cycle of the midlatitude tropospheric static stability is examined. Dry and moist static stability measures are analyzed as a function of latitude, longitude, and season. It is shown that in both the Northern (NH) and Southern Hemispheres (SH), dry and moist static stability averaged over the midlatitudes maximizes in December–February. Examinin...
